GAMMA

Greeks Advocating the Mature Management of Alcohol

GAMMA logoAny time your chapter holds a function; there is a possibility of injury to a person or property on your premises or at your event.  The injured might claim that you or members of your chapter are legally responsible for their injury even when it might not appear that you had any connection with their injury.  Risk Management is the taking of reasonable steps toward the prevention of injury to others.  In addition to the legal liability involved, every chapter and its members have a moral duty to be responsible for each other and their guests. In order to pro-active in addressing issues, bring awareness and providing education, UCLA GAMMA has been established to provide you the necessary information to hold safe and responsible programs and events.

What is GAMMA?

GAMMA, as part of the international peer education network, serves to promote social responsibility and awareness within the UCLA community through education initiatives and peer-driven accountability for fraternity and sorority chapters. GAMMA includes Co-Chairs from the IFC/Panhellenic Councils and representatives from nearly every fraternity and sorority on campus.  Together, the GAMMA council includes 40 of UCLA's most involved and pro-active Greeks.  There is no limit to the amount of representatives per chapter, although 2 - 3 reps are typical. A GAMMA Rep requires a commitment of at least 3 quarters.  Applications are available at the beginning of winter quarter, and interviews quickly follow.  Being a part of GAMMA is an awesome way to protect and promote your house and the entire Greek community.

Every UCLA Greek member has chosen to be part of a larger community respected for its positive risk management record.  Specific programming policies and procedures help us maintain this positive, pro-active reputation.  While you may question the necessity of a specific policy, remember it was established in order to create a safer and more responsible environment for our UCLA Greek Community. GAMMA works to help you and your chapter be familiar with  UCLA  policy.  GAMMA and UCLA policies  are designed to further assist fraternities and sororities in the efforts to reduce the risk for their members, as well as hold member organizations accountable for their actions.
